7 important lines on your hand

7 important lines on your hand

Palmistry: Lines on the hand and their meanings.

1. The Line of Life, the one that embraces the Mount of Venus.
2. The Line of Head, which crosses the centre of the hand.
3. The Line of Heart, one that goes parallel to the Line of the Head.
4. The Line of Venus, which situated above the Line of the Heart and encircling the Mounts of Saturn and the Sun.
5. The Line of Health, which crosses the Lines of Heart and Head.
6. The Line of Sun, which rises on the Plane of Mars.
7. The Line of Fate, which goes through the centre of the hand and begins from the wrist.

There are seven important lines on your hand.

The Line of Life.

This line should be long and narrow without breaks or crosses of any kind. The person with such line will have long life, good health and vitality. When this line is linked or lookes like chain it means bad health. When this line is broken in the right hand and joined in the left it means the presence of some dangerous illness, if broken in both hands it signify death. When this line is closely connected with the line of head the person is usually intelligent and open-minded. When the lines of head, heart and life are joined together it means that this person is not very clever and rushes through a defect in self-understanding towards the disaster. If the line of life is divided toward the end that means that this person will end his/her life in a country different from that of birth.

The Line of Head.

This line relates to the intelligence of the person. It show his/her level of the intellect. There are three different points where this line can rise from- the centre of the Mount of Jupiter, from the commencement the line of Life and from the Mount of Mars. In the first case it is the most powerful of all. Such person is usually very talented, full of energy, purposeful. He/she has an ability to control others, yet not seem to control them. The line of head in connection with line of life indicates that this person is sensitive and takes everything too close. Even clever people with such mark rein themselves down. In the third case when this line rising from the Mount of Mars it means that this person has a fretful temperament , constantly changes his/her opinion. The connection with the Mount of Mars gives one disagreeable trait- this person is always in conflict with his relatives. He/she is also sensitive, nervous and irritable.

The Line of Heart.

It is a very important line in the study of the hand. Love and attraction ruled by this line. The line of the heart should be deep, clear and well shaped. It may take its beginning from three important positions: the middle of the Mount of Jupiter, between the first and second fingers and from the centre of the Mount of Saturn. In the first case it means that the person is strong and reliable in his/her affections and will have very little love affairs. Next we have a person whose line of Heart rising between or from a finger itself. Such location shows that this person is too self-confident and so carried away by his/her pride that can see no faults. On the other hand, these people are deeper in matters of love. With the line of the Heart rising from Saturn the person will have more passion in his/her attachments and will be trying to satisfy loved ones. Such people are not very expressive or demonstrative in their everyday life. If the line of Heart is bright red it denotes that this person is very violent and passionate. when pale and broad, the person is indifferent. It is very good if the line of Heart commences high or low on the hand. The first is perfect, because it shows the happiest person you' ve ever met!

The Line of Faith.

This line relates to all our affairs. It shows if we tend to succeed or fail and ultimate resalt of our career. There are several points where this line can begin from. If the line of Faith rise from the line of life it means that the success and wealth will be won by personal merits. When this line rises from the wrist that means this person is extremely lucky and successful. If the line of Faith turns to any mount or portion of the hand we can predict a great success in that certain direction, according to the characteristic of the mount. If this line runs beyond the palm cutting into finger of Saturn it is not a good sign as everything that goes too far. When there is breaks or gaps in this line this is a sign of misfortune and loss and his/her career is uncertain. There will be a lot of ups and downs. People who don't have any sign of line of Faith are usually very successful but too passive, so in general we can't say that they are happy because they can't feel acutely neither happiness nor reverse.

The Line of Sun.

This is the line of brilliancy or the line of success. Rising from the line of life it denotes that this person's life will be devoted to the worship of the beautiful. When this line rising from the Mount of Moon it promises success and distinction dependent upon the help of others. It means uncertainty in success, influenced by the fortunes of those who he/she comes in contact. A person whose line of sun rising from the line of heart has a taste for art and artistic things. A star visible on this line is the finest sign that can be found. It means a great and lasting success in career. On a hollow hand the line of sun looses all its power. The absence of this line means complete absence of talents. Such person can work hard but it is difficult for them to gain the other people recognition.

The line of Health.

This line should lie straight down the hand. The complete absence of this line is a very good sign. It means an extremely robust, healthy constitution. The presence of this line in any form means some weak points to be guarded against. When this line touching the line of heart it symbolises some weakness of the heart. If it is pale in color it means a bad blood circulation. When twisted or irregular it means a presence some liver-disease. The line of health crossing the line of life at any points tells us that there is some delicacy at work undermining the health.

The Line of Venus.

This line usually associated with people who are sensitive but changeable in moods, easyly offended and very touchy at the same time. Such people are capable of rising to the highest top of their enthusiasm over anything that engages their attention, but they are too moody to succeed in these undertakings. Such people are hard to live with.

there are many distinctly different shapes of palms such as round, square, narrow or fleshy, representing personality characteristics. Also indicated is that the length and shape of the fingers can indicate traits such as strength, happiness, discipline or friendship.

palm reading guide

Line 1: Heart Line

  • Of the three main lines of the palm, the heart line is the one on top, just below the fingers. This line tells the tale of your emotions and love life (which is why it is sometimes called the love line).
  1. Does the line begin under your index finger, middle finger, or somewhere in between?
    • If it begins under your index finger, you're more likely to be in loving, stable relationships in your life.
    • If it begins under your middle finger, it means you're when it comes to love.
    • A heart line that starts in between these fingers indicates that you .
  2. How deep, defined and consistent is the line?
    • A broken line means you're flirtatious.
    • A circle interrupting the line represents a in your love life.
    • Deeper heart lines equal deeper emotions within the person.
  3. What is the shape and length of the line?
    • If the line goes all the way across your entire hand it may mean you're a naturally jealous person.
    • A straighter line indicates you can handle your emotions well, while a curvy line means you're more prone to being handled by your emotions.
    • A short heart line is a sign that you are more interested in sex than love.1

Line 2: Head Line

  • Found just below the heart line is your head line. This is where your intellectual and philosophical story is told. The photo to the right is of a hand that has a particularly straight head line, although it can also be curved.
  1. Does your head line meet up with your life line (the next main line down on your hand)?
    • If so, you're probably a more cautious person. If they're apart, you're more of an adventurous risk-taker.
    • If they don't meet, the more space that is between them, the luckier a person you are].
  2. What shape is your head line?
    • A curved head line means you're creative, while a straighter line reflects a more logical, realistic approach to thinking.
    • A wavy head line means a short attention span.
  3. How deep is your head line?
    • The depth of your head line indicates how good your memory is. Deep head lines mean better memory.
    • A broken head line shows inconsistencies in your thinking or a specific change in thinking in your life.2

Line 3: Life Line

  • The third and lowest of the three major palm lines is the life line. It gives you clues about the nature of your life and health.
  1. What shape is your life line?
    • If it forms a semicircle, it represents truth and enthusiasm.
    • A wavy life line indicates energy and optimism.
    • A straight life line usually means you are cautious with love in your life.
  2. How deep and consistent is the life line?
    • A broken life line is an indication of poor health.
    • A deeper, defined life line represents vitality.
  3. A longer life line means a longer life.
    • If you're genuinely worried about the length of your life line, just remember that even if you believe palmistry can predict the future, the lines on our hands change throughout our lives, so the future is not set in stone (or flesh).3

Other Considerations

  • Besides the three major lines, there are plenty of other aspects to analyze when reading one's palm.

Other Lines

  • There are several other lines that may or may not be on the palm. Some of them include:
  1. Fate line (red): Reveals your future successes/failures and denotes the influence of outside factors on your life.
  2. Marriage line (blue): This line (or lines) is found on the side of the hand under the little finger and indicates your.
  3. Health line (green): Shows your overall health over your lifetime.
  4. Fame line (purple): Illustrates your public recognition.
  5. Girdle of Venus (yellow): Shows how sensitive and moody you are.4

Which Hand?

  • Each hand tells a different story.
    • Your dominant hand (the right hand if you're right-handed) represents changes and developments in your talents and personality.
    • Your weak hand tells you about your natural personality, the traits you were born with.5

Mounts

  • The palm mounts are the little mounds of flesh that raise out of the palm (like at the base of each finger).
  1. The study of these mounts is called chirognomy.
  2. The Institute of Palmistry says that mounts are representative of various types of brain activity.6
  3. There are eight mounts (though two called Mars), each with a different celestial name such as Venus, Jupiter, and the Sun.
  4. The mounts are indicative of many traits including ambition, artistic appreciation, courage, and imagination among many others.
  5. Texture, firmness, and size are a factor in analyzing mounts.7

Hand and Fingernail Shapes

  • Besides the palm itself, you can gain insight on a person by looking at how the rest of the hand looks, as well.
  1. There are 4 main types of hand shapes: pointed, square, coned, and spade, also called earth, air, water and fire.
  2. Your hand can also be a mixture of these basic shapes.
  3. Different hand and finger shapes mean different temperaments and personalities.
    • Coned hands indicate artistic and creative abilities.
    • Those with pointed hands tend to appreciate beauty.8
  4. Fingernails that are long in shape belong to those with a gentle disposition, while short nails mean you are critical and skeptical.
  5. If your fingernails are very long and dirty, it probably just means you should better groom yourself.

Fatalist Hand signs on your palm: Warnings and Danger

Now that you know what kind of a traveler you are, it's time to read the warning signs displayed on your palm.

As with any other line, the interpretation of a travel line is subject to other markings:
  • Overlaps and breaks on the travel line indicate that travel will be delayed at that point.
  • Bars and other lines that cross the travel line show obstacles to travel and interferences that you must overcome.
  • A star on the travel line is an indication that there could be danger or disaster ahead — perhaps a train or car accident, or problems with delays caused by a faulty aircraft. Look to your life line to see if there is a corresponding star in the same frame as the journey to see how much cause there is for concern.
  • An island on a travel line means a traveler should beware, because the trip may have an entirely unanticipated and nasty end, such as bad travel connections that leave you stranded, getting lost in unfamiliar territory, or not being able to achieve the goals of the trip. It could even be as serious as a dangerous result, say becoming the victim of a crime.
  • A square on the travel line adds protection for the traveler at the point where it appears.

MARKS ON THE HAND

Transverse Markstransverse marks

A transverse linw marking on the hand is an evil sign that nullifies the positive qualities of any mount it is found upon. Though a person may have the markings of a heroic mount, these qualities can be reduced if it has a score of transverse lines. If transverse lines are found across the Mount of Mercury, it indicates that the bearer will use his/her talents of diplomacy and tact for deceit and guile for ill gains.

Vertical Marksvertical marks

Vertical markings are a benefic sign. If found on the mounts, they heighten its positive qualities and assist in annulling any poor signs also located on the mount. They are theopposites of the aforementioned transverse markings. Vertical markings upon the Mount of Mercury will bring a great deal of tact and loquaciousness to serve for pleasant communication and friendship. It will emphasize science and business skills. Two vertical lines on the Mount of Mercury are often the symbol of a Doctor or Biologist.

The Grillegrille lines

The grille is a point at which the energies of the hand dissipate or escape out. If grilles are found throughout the entirety of the hand, the power of its bearer is constantly drained by vexations and imagined slights. If a grille appears on the mount, it saps or thwarts the qualities of the mount, e.g. such a Grille on the Mount of Apollo will forever put off the attainment of any true success in life.

The Crosscross at palm

Crosses always denote troubles, disappointment, danger, and when found on lines, the harm to the bearer may be aggravated as the Holy Cross of Jesus Christ. Occasionally it can refer to a dramatic change in one's life due to a crisis or hardship. They should always be considered an ill omen save for two cases: when found on the Mount of the Jupiter and when located between the Head and Heart lines, known as the "Croix Mystique". The bearer of such a symbol is purported to possess a greater degree of mysticism, occultism, and superstition.
The position of the "Croix Mystique" is also quite important. If located high up, near the Mount of Jupiter, the bearer will exhibit belief in mysticism only for their own gain. Those with crosses further from the Mount of Jupiter will care more for the principles and methods by which the mystical experience was expressed rather than its immediate application to themselves.

The Starpalm star

The star is a symbol of good and sudden brilliance in a person's life. A line that ends in a star signifies the greatest accomplishments possible; however, the star often carries with it an unpleasant price. For example if the Line of Apollo ends in a star, it denotes great fame, but this often results in the bearer suffering the loss of their private sphere to their successful public sphere.A star on the mounts will naturally denote great proficiency with the mount's corresponding traits, yet these traits may consume some of the other bearer's qualities. The star is certainly a sign to be viewed with great caution.

The Islandisland

The Island is always a negative sign. It is often a sign of some hereditary evil, such as a heart condition or intemperance with spirits, but it may just as easily represent non-congenital emotional stress. The island is a gradual and prolonged, and oft times subtle period of strife in an individual's life. It could represent mounting stress on the line of the head, and manifest itself as headaches. On the Line of Fate, It could be a period in which the individual finds himself surrounded with mounting debts that peak at the widest point of the island. These misfortunes will last to the extent that the island is long.

The Squarepalm square

The square is almost always a benefic symbol. It denotes an especial significance when covering an area that is experiencing turmoil, such as chained, broken, or dotted lines. In this instance, difficulties will arise but the bearer will persevere and the crisis will be averted or thwarted. Damage may be reduced to a minimal one or prevented all together. A square after perturbations in a line signifies repair. The one instance in which the square denotes negative influences is when it is found on the upper portion of the Mount of Venus near the life line, where it denotes detention or incarceration.

The Circlepalm circle

The circle is a very rare marking in palmistry. It is an evil mark unless it be on a mount, in which case it usually augments the powers and promise of a mount. If it touches any line, it brings inescapable misfortune to the line it touches. The native would go round and round in a circle without being able to break through and get free out of life's hassles.

The Trianglepalm triangle

The triangle is a positive sign, though strong significance should be ascribed to it only when it stands as an independent mark, not composed of intersecting lines. It denotes mental flourish and success corresponding to the location of the mark, i.e., if it were to be found upon the Mount of Apollo, it would denote an artistic success. If found alongside a line, it will naturally take on significance dependent upon the line. The triangle will never reach the great heights of success, but it possesses balance and will not carry with it the backlash that so often accompanies the star.

The Spotpalm dots

The spot is a sign of a distinct event or malady, though it often comes in groups that denote a chronic disorder. If found on a line, it typically signifies a temporary illness corresponding to the line, e.g., a spot on the Line of Head indicates some violence to the head or brain fever.

The Tridentpalm trident

The trident is a most propitious marking wherever it may lay. If it rises from a line, it will expound the qualities of that line and draw additional power from the mounts or lines that branch on either side head towards. If found on a mount, the trident carries with it great flourish of the properties of that mount in conjunction with its neighboring mounts. The trident is such a powerful symbol that it eclipses the star in beneficence.

The Tasselpalm tassel

A tasseled line can oft be found at the end of the lifeline; as the individual weakens and deteriorates with age, so too does the line. Such is the case with the Line of Head, where it denotes a weakening of mental clarity and approaching senility or old age ; the Line of Heart with a deteriorating heart condition or emotional trauma that has left the individual very feeble and unstable.

Drooping Offshootsdroping offshoots

Lines that droop from any larger line indicate a disappointment in life. Along the Line of Heart, it denotes disappointment in love or an unfortunate event in which the individual became too emotionally involved. Along the Line of Head, it may signify the obstruction of one's ideals or disillusionment

Rising Offshootspalm rising offshoots

Rising offshoots are the inverse of the drooping offshoots. They represent periods of sudden inspiration, fruition, and happiness. It will draw upon the qualities of the mount that it is directed to. For example, an offshoot springing from the Line of Head and nearing the Mount of Mercury is a sign of scientific prowess--perhaps an invention, or a discovery, or a synthesis of concepts that have long been drifting through the individual's mind, but had hitherto been dissociated.

Sister Linespalm sisterlines

Sister lines support the line along which they follow. Some sister lines are quite common, such as the Line of Mars, which accompanies and strengthens the constitution denoted by the Line of Life; The Line of Apollo is a sister line for the Line of Fate, as it serves a similar function and accentuates the fulfillment one feels in the course of their career.Sister lines protect and heal lines that are broken, crooked, frayed, or side-by-side. Lest a line exist with several negative markings, sister lines will be the guiding hand that shall shield the bearer from the brunt of life's assaults.

The rascette

Each person in the world has some form of wrist lines on the hand, and they are considered one of the nine sets of minor lines that bring extra interpretive information to a hand. Collectively, the wrist lines are known as the rascette, and there are generally three of them (though in some cases there may be four); these lines may be referred to as the first, second, and third rascette.

The rascette is of vital importance because it connects the hand to the brain that thinks, the heart that feels, the feet that travel, and the chemicals in the body that create the lines of the hands.
When you are examining the rascette, don't read further than where your wrist bones meet the radius bone on your arm. When reading rascettes, you always want to stay focused on the major lines around the wrist.

Finger Lines meaning

Palmistry

Reading Finger LinesAs an even deeper indicator of your obstacles or challenges in life, your fingers can have vertical or horizontal lines on them that correspond directly to the areas of your life represented by each of your fingers.

If you have horizontal lines on your Jupiter finger, it can mean that you will experience a breach of confidence; on your Saturn finger, the same lines reveal worries or insecurities about your home or personal life. Horizontal lines on the Apollo finger depict opposition to your happiness — and those threats may be more apparent in your married life if the horizontal lines are plentiful on both the Saturn and Apollo fingers. On the Mercury finger, horizontal lines can point to sexual inhibition or difficulties. Vertical lines on fingers pertain directly to health problems. On the Jupiter finger, the thyroid is affected; on Saturn, it's the pineal gland that's the problem. Vertical lines on the Apollo finger relate to the thymus, which can in turn mean that the cardiovascular system is somehow impaired, with blood pressure too high or too low. Have your thyroid gland checked if you have vertical lines on your Mercury or little finger. Vertical lines can also mean you have issues pertaining to poor circulation or high blood pressure.

Power over Your Troubles

Most health problems can be overcome with early intervention, so use these lines as warning signs and go to your doctor for regular checkups. It will be interesting to watch your horizontal and vertical finger lines change as you deal positively with each health challenge that presents itself; remember, the lines change as we change. As a final note, many fingers feature a combination of both horizontal and vertical lines, which means you have the power to overcome the obstacles associated with each finger or aspect of your life. If your fingers contain mixed lines, you are blessed with the ability to come through obstacles smelling like a rose!
Horizontal and vertical lines
If you have lots of short, horizontal lines on your fingers, you probably suffer from excess stress and should try relaxation or meditation techniques to help calm your nerves. Lots of vertical lines typically mean hormonal problems. For instance, a woman with lots of vertical lines on her fingers might suffer from PMS or hormonal imbalances.

Finger Shapes and Meanings

like the five hand types, the fingers can be shaped in five different manners, each having a separate and distinct meaning in palmistry. The four basic shapes and their corresponding meanings are:
  • Conical: These are the fingers of wise, old souls who possess terrific insight and inner knowledge, as well as creativity; these are great friends and supportive people.
  • Pointed: These fingers point to expensive, eclectic tastes and a great eye for style and décor. Those with pointed fingers are also deeply spiritual and intuitive.
  • Spatulate: These fingers indicate predominance of the intellect; people with spatulate fingers tend to be witty and interesting, with many layers to their personalities. They are also serious workaholics and can be obsessed with success — but they always make time for serious adventure.
  • Squared: These fingers signal the need for simplicity and are common with people who are direct, fair, and considerate. These folks are quite willing to work hard for what they want in life, making them ideal business people who lead by positive example.
Conical, pointed, spatulate, and square fingers
Mixed finger shapes are very uncommon; a person whose fingers have elements of two or more shapes have a tendency to be unpredictable — they show one side of themselves to the outside world, and have another side that is distinctly different and completely private.

Smooth or Knobby?

Are your fingers looking a little like they've been through the wringer? If you think you have “knobby” fingers characterized by knots in your finger knuckles, more than likely the cause is rheumatism or arthritis — but some knots can occur naturally without pointing to a specific illness.
Knobby fingers without a medical explanation speak to mental capacity, particularly the ability to analyze situations and come to the correct conclusions about them. People with knots in their finger joints sometimes stew over the little things in life, but have a knack for stepping up to the plate when an emergency situation arises.
A knobby finger
People with smooth fingers are much more impulsive than their knotted-fingered counterparts. They often mistake their own hunches for proven truth. They don't always think before they act, and end up being surprised that their actions have manifested the situation they most wanted to avoid. Often, they just don't understand how their actions will affect the lives of others, and as a result, others see them as cold or self-absorbed. They can take an unmovable stance on a subject, often flat-out refusing to change their minds, even when the truth becomes known.
You should never try to argue logically with a smooth-fingered person; instead, try persuading them by helping them to experience the truth, make them think the correct conclusion was their decision, or let them make their mistakes and learn from hard experience.

When the knots occur between the first and second joints of the fingers, this means you have an almost-supernatural power to analyze the complex — you can see things that aren't clearly visible to others. The knots separating the second and third finger joints indicate the more mundane ability to analyze people and things.

Finger Length

Now that we've looked at finger shape and joints, let's move on to length and its meaning. The total length of a finger can be measured from the center of the knuckle to the tip of the finger. A finger is considered to be short if it doesn't reach the joint immediately below the nail on the next-longest finger. A finger is long if it exceeds this joint in length and extra long if it is the same size or larger on what is usually the next-longest finger.
As a rule, short-fingered people are interested only in quick results. They can see people or situations with broad perspective. If the hand has a strong thumb, a long first finger, and a solid head line, short fingers can have quite a capacity for work and don't mind “pulling the wagon” or doing their fair share of work.
A hand with long fingers
A hand with short fingers
Do you have long fingers on your hands? Long-fingered types absolutely adore details and are good “idea” people. If your fingers are unusually long, similar to the pointed or psychic type of hand, you are likely a person who gets so wrapped up in ideas and possibilities that you never act on them.

Top 10 hand gestures you’d better get right

Nacho highlighted the danger of using certain hand gestures when travelling in an earlier post, as some have very different meanings in some countries from what we as Westerners believe them to stand for. Let’s take a look, shall we?

1. The “Wanker”This one actually has a universal meaning; it was just too good not to include in any compilation of hand gestures. There aren’t many places on earth where you could get away with frantically fist-pumping at somebody - I’d imagine because masturbating’s the same wherever you go. Even in Japan.
Tony Blair, caught in the act. Or, thanks to some Photoshopping, maybe not. And yes, Tony... you are.Particularly popular with fans at football matches to taunt opposition players, Tony Blair famously copped a bit of embarrassment when the uncensored version of a photograph of him during his Oxford University days was shown on BBC2’s Newsnight: a photo that had later been photoshopped by the supplying press agency to cover up Blair’s rude – and delightfully unambiguous – hand gesture. Yes, Tony. You are.
Interestingly, in Greece and Portugal the gesture is made with the palm facing the ground, implying that the person is rather fonder of wanking other men as opposed to himself.
2. The “Thumbs-Up”
I'll live to see you eat that thumbs-up.
First of all, let’s quash the urban legend of the ‘thumbs-up/thumbs-down’ being used by the audience in the Roman coliseum to vote on the life or death of a defeated gladiator, as furthered by such movies as Gladiator and Spartacus. There’s no evidence for this, and it’s just massively unlikely. Sorry.
While Western culture has become used to the thumbs-up as a positive, informal signal, generally indicating a job well done (probably stemming from World War II pilots using the signal to communicate that they were “good to go” with ground crews), there are cultures where a thumbs-up may land you in trouble. In most of Latin America and West Africa, as well as Greece, Russia, Sardinia and the south of Italy, the thumbs-up basically means the same as the middle finger: “sit on it and swivel”. Also, it’s generally not recommended to use the thumbs-up around the Middle East as it’s pretty much the biggest insult out there – and even worse if you pull off the emphatic version with both hands - so no Fonzie impressions, please.
Rather more charming is a thumbs-up in Germany and in the less-Westernised areas of Japan – they just see it as the hand signal for the number one. Bless.
3. The “Moutza”
Let's hope there are no Greeks in the audience.
Opening your palm to your target and stretching out your fingers seems harmless enough to most Westerners. Most of us would think you’re waving. In Greece, however, the gesture is known as a moutza, and is one of their most traditional manual insults. With fingers slightly apart, you thrust your hand into your target’s face, usually coupling the gesture with a brash “na!”, meaning “here you go!”. The basic suggestion is something like “eat shit”, implying that you’re not particularly impressed and would rather the target of the moutza leave you alone – comparable to the American interpretation of the same signal as “talk to the hand, because the face isn’t listening”.
The gesture is also an insulting one in Pakistan and many parts of Africa. The Japanese use a very similar sign to insult their old enemies, the Koreans. Roughly translating as ‘animal’, the signal is similar to the moutza in every way except they tuck the thumb into the palm.
Amusingly, Microsoft used to use a very similar-looking hand signal as an icon for warning dialogs in previous versions of Windows – what Greek users must have thought of that, I don’t know… “This application has performed an illegal operation - now, eat shit!”.
4. The “Dog Call”Curling your index finger towards you in a summoning motion is a gesture generally linked with seductive temptresses in Hollywood movies, beckoning for their targeted men to follow them into another room.
Here, boy!Beware, however, of using this gesture in the Philippines – it’s a method of communication considered worthy only to use on dogs, and is actually punishable by arrest. Worst of all, they’ll break your index finger in order to prevent you from committing the same crime again!
5. The “A-OK”Mainly used by scuba divers to mean “OK” (to prevent ambiguity with the thumbs-up sign, which means “ascend”), this hand gesture is generally called ‘A-OK’, and in America and the UK is often used to tell somebody that they’ve made a great meal, as talking with your mouth would just be impolite. Essentially the meaning comes out as “great”, or “absolutely fine”.
Not so, however, in a few countries in Europe, where the numerical interpretation gives the signal an insulting overtone – essentially you’re telling them that you think they’re a ‘zero’.
Far worse, however, is the meaning in Brazil, Germany and a few Mediterranean countries: the circular shape of the gesture gives it the meaning of “anus”, and is therefore used to call somebody an “asshole”, or, by extension, a homosexual. You probably wouldn’t learn that in most of the German courses London has to offer.
6. The “Cutis”
Shoaib will tell you that he was just biting his nails.
While there isn’t really an equivalent in Western culture, the cutis in Indian and Pakistani culture is basically a thumbs-up, except you push the nail on your thumb against your front teeth and flick, while saying “cutta!”. It basically amounts to “screw you”, and famously appeared in the media when Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar made the gesture in Melbourne as he left the field for a rain delay during the 2004 test series against Australia.
7. The “V Sign”The age-old ‘V sign’ comes in two formats: one with the palm faced outwards, and one with the palm inwards. In America the two hand signals mean the same thing – ‘victory’, as popularised by Richard Nixon, or ‘peace and love’, which seemed to become the primary meaning after anti-Vietnam protesters used it during the 60s.
'Um, sir? You just told the entire population of London to go screw themselves'However, if the outside of your hand is facing your target, you’re giving somebody a long-established insult in Great Britain and many English-speaking countries such as Australia, Ireland and New Zealand. Winston Churchill famously used the ‘incorrect’ version of the V sign during the early years of the war, switching round later when he’d been told by his advisors that he wasn’t exactly giving the lower social orders a positive message. The V sign is also considered rude in Italy, especially if you place your nose between the two fingers, making the gesture resemble a crude vagina.
I myself have almost seen a fight start as a result of an American tourist ordering drinks in an English pub: when asked how many pints he wanted, he simply stuck two fingers up and looked straight into the eyes of the barman – perfectly normal on the other side of the Atlantic (it’s actually the signal for the number 2 in American Sign Language), but it’s fighting talk to the British.
8. The “Fig”
'I've got your nose'.
Nothing more than a fist with the thumb poking out from between the index and middle fingers, the mano fico (literally ‘fig hand’) is a gesture of Roman origin, used as a positive gesture to encourage good luck and fertility, and ward away the ‘evil eye’. The sexual nuance comes from from the hand’s resemblance to the female private parts (fica is actually Italian slang for “vulva”), with the nub of the thumb representing the clitoris.
There seems to be a lack of positive meaning to this sign these days, however. If you’re doing the ‘fig’, it probably means you’re denoting a letter T in American Sign Language. But if somebody else is giving you the same gesture (especially if they are of the Asian persuasion), they’re probably giving you a rather disparaging insult, roughly equivalent to “fuck you!”. This hand sign is also highly disparaging to Italians and Turks, and in India would be taken as a threatening gesture. Most non-deaf Americans or Brits, however, would simply see the mano fico as a bizarre-looking fist.
9. The “Corna”Consisting of a clenched fist with the second and fifth fingers straightened out, the corna (‘horns’) hand gesture has most recently been adopted by fans of rock and heavy metal music, first used by Black Sabbath vocalist Ronnie James Dio. The gesture carries only a vague meaning, implying the presence of Satan, malevolence and loud guitar music, and is used in much the same way as headbanging. The gesture was actually popularised as a Satanic salute during the 1960s, appearing in many editions of the Satanic Bible. Nowadays many Americans use the gesture simply to mean “rock on”, or in support of the University of Texas in Austin (known as the “Hook ‘em Horns”).
Jenna Bush - satanist, metal fan, or just trying too hard?Occasionally used by baseball players to indicate “two outs”, the corna is actually a positive hand gesture in Buddhism and Hinduism, known as the Karana Mudra in such circles, and is used to dispel evil – an interestingly opposite meaning to its contemporary significance.
Historically, however, the symbol basically means “cuckold” (or rather, “your wife is cheating on you”), and its origins are Mediterranean, possibly dating back to Ancient Greece. The corna is still popular in Spain, Portugal, Greece, Colombia, Brazil, Albania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, and seems to be used most often to disagree with football referees - perhaps their wives are taking advantage of their husband’s occupation to score with hunky football players - though only when the referee make an incorrect decision, of course…
Of course, if you’re thinking of learning that in a Spanish course London is probably the best place to start…
10. “The Finger”
Great parenting.
Most likely derived from Ancient Greece, ‘the finger’ is one of the most widespread obscene gestures throughout the Western world. In a handful of Mediterranean and Arab countries the index finger is preferred to the middle, but the meaning remains crystal clear. There are a myriad of different stories for the origin of the finger (going back as far as 2500 years), making mention of Greek tragedies, phallic representation, perverse Roman emperors, English longbowmen, and annoyed deaf people - but we just don’t know.
Also known as the ‘flip-off’, the ‘bird’, the ‘highway salute’, ‘digitus impudicus’ and the ‘One-Fingered Victory Salute’ (thanks to President Bush’s famous TV blooper), the middle finger is probably the most universally-understood hand gesture in the world. This is owed mostly to its age, the sheer simplicity of the gesture, as well as the human preoccupation with somehow relating everything back to sexual organs.
Of course there are regional differences, from half-extending the second and fourth fingers (no doubt to represent the ‘balls’ either side of the middle finger ‘dick’) or combining the finger with another rude gesture, to being as creative as holding up your middle three fingers and telling your target to “read between the lines”.
What have we learned here? Well, perhaps that endless French lessons aren’t necessarily going to make you immune to insulting French people.

So, there you have it - ten of the most popular (and most globally misunderstood) hand gestures, in all their glory. I’ll end this post by offering the same advice Nacho did in his post - the best idea when travelling abroad is probably to keep both hands pinned to your sides.
Permanently.

Marriage line, called your "love line"

Palm Reading: The Marriage Line

Also called your "love line", the marriage line encompasses everything in your love life. The marriage line is a small line found under your pinky, the area which is known as the mount of mercury. This small line comes from the outside of your palm around the edge to the inside. Some individuals have multiple marriage lines, each representing a separate marriage. If a cross is found on your marriage line, then the engagement or marriage that it represents will be broken. Other small marks on the marriage line represent illicit affairs.

Finding Your Marriage Line
palm reading - marriage line The marriage line is a small line normally found under your pinky. It will generally come around from the outside of your hand into the inside edge under the pinky.

Marriage Line Notes
There are several different things you can read from a marriage line. Some of these include:
  • You can tell if a man has cheated by examining his marriage line. If there is a short line that parallels his marriage line, then he's had relationships prior (or after) marriage. If he has a short line under the marriage line, he's had an affair during marriage.
  • If your marriage line is lower on the mount of mercury (the fleshy area under your pinky), near your heart line, you'll marry early. If it's higher, near the pinky finger, you'll marry later in life.
  • If you have multiple marriage lines, they each represent a separate marriage that you'll have in your lifetime. Which ever is the longest and thickest represents your best marriage.
  • A thick, long, horizontal marriage line is best. If it's thick and long, then you'll get married to a fated love.
  • If your marriage line descends down and touches the heart line, it means divorce or separation.

The marriage line is placed in the mount of mercury. In palm reading terms this means that the marriage line is located at the point of personality.
To view the marriage line or lines place the palm sideways. This placement allows the best view of the marriage line that initiates on the outer palm and runs toward the ring finger. The marriage line is short and faint. Use a flashlight if needed to read the detail of the marriage line.
The marriage line is located somewhere above the heart line and the base of the little finger.
The heart line is the deep line that runs vertically from the same side of the palm as the marriage line. The location of the marriage line is as significant as its form. If the marriage line is located nearer to the base of the little finger that reveals that the person will marry late in life. If the marriage line is located closer to the heart line that reveals an individual that will marry young.
The type of marriage lines will reveal the types of marriages. If there is only one line, long, and unbroken this marriage line that reveals that the individual will have one marriage, monogamous, no children.
If the line has vertical slash marks this reveals children and the number. For example, one slash mark, one child. Two slash marks, two children.
If there is more than one marriage line that reveals that the individual will have more than one marriage. The deepest line will represent the most meaningful marriage. If the line has a fork at its ends this represents that the marriage will end in divorce or death.
A marriage line that begins, has a break, and continues reveals that the individual will marry, incur some kind of separation, then reunite.
If the marriage line has parallel lines running next to it, this reveals infidelity. The person has a relationship outside of the marriage.
If the marriage line curves down and touches the heart line this represents someone that has heartbreak tied to their marriage.
The significance of the line is exclusive to the person and when meeting someone new, take a look at what their palm has to say before even considering saying the words I do.

4 major palm reading lines in most hands

There are 4 major palm reading lines in most hands.
The major lines in your hand are the Life Line, the Heart Line, the Head Line, and the Fate Line.
The major lines give basic information about you, like how you function physically, emotionally, and intellectually. Of course, the major lines of palmistry are only one source of information, and other parts of the hand can tell you much about each of these categories too.
Here's an introduction to these lines of palmistry.
How to interpret them will be discovered in the articles on line quality and placement.

1. Palm Reading -- Life Line

The Life Line curves around the base of the thumb, starting between the index finger and thumb.
Contrary to popular misconception, the length of the Life Line does not determine how long you will live.
In palm reading, the Life Line shows

  • Sexuality
  • Quality of life
  • Prosperity

Here's a neat tip. In palmistry a double Life Line is seen fairly often. This line echoes the Life Line, but can be even less than half as long, held within the curve of the Life Line. This is often called an Angel Line, and signifies that angels or other higher powers are watching over and protecting you.
Even if you don't believe in angels, a double Life Line increases the power of health and vitality in a person.
The longer the double Life Line, the better!

2. PalmReading -- Head Line

The Head Line runs horizontally across the middle of the palm. It reflects your mind and brain.
The Head Line shows things like ...

  • Level of intelligence,
  • Type of intelligence,
  • Memory,
  • Concentration.

Rarely in palmistry a double Head Line is seen. Doubling a line usually strengthens its energy, but only if they are in harmony.
This often indicates someone with a lot of talent and an instinct for business. They will tend to do well in life.
If the double Head Lines go in different directions or seem far apart, it can indicate more of a double-personality... that is, the person will have two mental perspectives that conflict, and they will consequently have trouble "knowing their own mind."
Of course, this is not to be confused with one head line ending and another overlapping or beginning after a space. That is a broken head line.

3. Palm Reading -- Heart (Love) Line

The heart line runs horizontally across the top of the hand. It reflects your heart, on both physical and emotional levels.
It demonstrates...

  • Emotionality,
  • Passion and sensuality,
  • Ability to love and accept love,
  • Emotional maturity,
  • Manner of relationships.
The Heart Line is one of the most important lines of palmistry, especially in this age of transition for humanity.

4. Palm Reading -- Fate Line

The Fate Line runs vertically from the base of the palm up the middle of the palm, more or less.
The Fate Line in palmistry is sometimes considered a minor line, rather than a major line. It doesn't show up in every hand. Yet it is a dominant line, compared to the other minor lines.
To get you started, and because most people want to know about their "fate," let's look at what it means.
The Fate Line shows...
